Like members, all providers need to revalidate their Medicaid enrollment

Date: 08/16/24

Like member redetermination, the provider revalidation process is getting back on track following the expiration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) lifted its requirements for states during the PHE, but Illinois will soon begin revalidating all providers through 2025 and returning to an ongoing five-year revalidation cycle.

Starting September 3, 2024, and continuing throughout 2025, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) will begin sending revalidation notices to Medicaid providers—via email—in rolling stages.

Current Meridian Medicaid Plan, YouthCare, and Medicare-Medicaid Plan providers must complete revalidation when they receive email notification from HFS. Meridian’s Provider Relations team is ready to assist in-network providers who need support with this process.

Key details:

  • A 90-day revalidation cycle will open for a new group of providers each month. The timing is based upon a provider’s enrollment date, which can be found on the Basic Information page in the Illinois Medicaid Program Advance Cloud Technology (IMPACT) system.
  • Currently enrolled providers will receive two email notifications from HFS: first when their 90-day revalidation cycle begins, and then 30 days before their revalidation due date.
    • Providers should not attempt to revalidate until they receive an email notification.
    • The revalidation notice will contain instructions for reviewing your current enrollment information and updating it as needed.
  • Failure to revalidate by the due date will terminate providers from Medicaid and claims will not be paid.
  • Providers who revalidate after their due date will get a new effective date. Claims will be denied for services rendered during their break in enrollment.
  • HFS has created resources to support providers with the revalidation process.

Don’t miss your revalidation notice: Confirm your information now in the IMPACT system.

Providers will only be notified via email of their 90-day revalidation cycle. Take steps now to ensure you can access the IMPACT system and that email information for your organization is accurate.

  • Revalidation notices are sent to the email addresses listed on the Basic Information page of IMPACT.
  • Providers with multiple service locations must revalidate the enrollment of each service location and will receive notification for each service location separately.

Please note: If you have not logged into IMPACT in a while, an enhanced multi-factor authentication process called OKTA was implemented for added security in 2022. Signing in again for the first time will require you to migrate your legacy IMPACT account to the new system. HFS created a presentation with step-by-step instructions and will explain the process further in communications to providers.
