FIRST IN THE NATION: HEALTH CARE EQUITY CERTIFICATION FOR MERIDIAN´S IN-NETWORK ILLINOIS HOSPITALS
Date: 02/12/24
Meridian is excited to be the first Medicaid health plan in the country to offer financial support to our in-network Illinois hospitals for The Joint Commission’s Health Care Equity (HCE) Certification program.
Through the HCE Certification program, Meridian will support our hospitals that have committed to provide and uphold equitable standards of care and treatment in alignment with our goal to eliminate health disparities.
The HCE Certification program provides a comprehensive framework to assess, enhance, and monitor practices to create a measurable impact on health outcomes for underserved populations. The focus is on key areas, such as:
- diversity and inclusion
- cultural competency
- accessibility of services
- community engagement
Attaining HCE certification can help hospitals stand out among patients, payors, government agencies, and employers by demonstrating a commitment to reducing healthcare disparities in the communities they serve.
To support our Illinois in-network hospital partners in achieving The Joint Commission’s HCE certification, Meridian is offering reimbursement assistance to offset fees. Safety Net and Critical Access hospitals will receive 25% reimbursement and all other hospitals will receive 15% reimbursement of the fees.
The Joint Commission has a dedicated staff member to assist with the process. To learn more, contact Dave Eickemeyer at DEickemeyer@jointcommission.org.
