MERIDIAN PARTNERS WITH THE NATIONAL DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM TO HELP CURB DIABETES

Date: 03/07/23

Prediabetes is on the rise, affecting one in three adults. Many of those affected don’t even know they have it. Some factors that can put you at risk include:

  • Family history
  • Blood pressure
  • Pregnancy
  • Weight

A prediabetes diagnosis is serious. It should not be ignored. Without treatment, it could lead to type 2 diabetes. If not controlled, diabetes can harm the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.”

The good news is that prediabetes can be treated. Lifestyle changes can lower your risks. These include:

  • Reducing stress
  • Eating healthy foods
  • Exercising

Meridian knows that changing lifelong habits is not easy. To help you make these meaningful, healthy changes, we have partnered with the National Diabetes Prevention Program.

Members who enroll in the program receive a year of coaching and peer support. Visit chicagocaresdpp.org/ to learn more about this program.

Knowing your risk is vital. Take the first step in preventing type 2 diabetes. Visit the website and take an online prediabetes test. It is private, quick, and easy to take.
